Centre for Digital Media partners with Ethọ́s Lab to improve Black representation in digital media
Centre for Digital Media (CDM) has partnered with Ethọ́s Lab, a Black-led, youth STEAM education provider, to help improve Black representation in digital media.
The partnership is made possible thanks to the Higher Ed XR Innovation Grant from the Unity Social Impact and Meta Immersive Learning partnership. Centre for Digital Media, a ground-breaking partnership between AV, UBC, BCIT and Emily Carr, was one of eight organizations to receive the innovation grant, which provides more than $1 million for advances in teaching and learning.
With the support of the grant, Ethọ́s Lab and CDM aim to increase the representation of Black youth and girls in extended reality (XR)-based digital futures through the development of an XR Media Lab program. The funding will enable the program to serve more than 300 underrepresented youth and more than 190 high school educators over five years.
