Description of Conference Formats.
Please refer to these descriptions when preparing for your conference presentation.
•Keynote Session: This will be a plenary session that will feature invited speakers to stimulate thinking and discussion on key themes of the conference.
•Multiple Single-paper Session: Paper sessions will be 75 or 60 minutes long and will consist of 3 or 2 individual formal papers of one or more authors organized around a similar theme or related subject. Each paper is allocated 15-20 minutes for presentation and 5-10 minutes for discussion. Our preference is to have all presentations first, followed by audience participation and discussion moderated by the Session Chair.
•Symposium Session: provides for an in-depth examination of specific problems or topics, from a variety of viewpoints. Symposia sessions will be 75 or 60 minutes long. The symposium organizer is responsible for coordinating with participants the duration of each presentation. As the purpose of this format is to foster dialogue among attendees, generous time allowance should be made for extended audience discussion of the presented papers.
•Round Table Session: Roundtable discussions present an opportunity for informal, in-depth discussions between 2-3 presenters and attendees on similar or related topics. They are particularly well suited for works-in-progress and are not meant to be formal paper presentations. In this 40 – 45 min. session, each roundtable presenter will be allocated 8-10 minutes for speaking on his/her topic and there will be 10 -15 minutes for group discussion at the end of the session facilitated by a moderator. AV equipment (projection of slides, for e.g.) will not be possible in this format.
•Poster Session: Posters will be presented at a designated poster session for a period of 40-45 minutes. Poster presentations are intended for face-to-face discussions of research in progress on a selected topic, and feature the use of graphic or other visual materials. Presenters are responsible for being present to discuss their posters with interested audience. An easel with a foam core board will be provided at each table. Presenters are responsible for bringing their posters. AV equipment (projection of slides, for e.g.) will not be possible in this format.
•Wrap up Session: Held at the end of each day, these short plenary sessions will feature assigned discussants, who will provide summary comments and pose questions from the day’s proceedings. Discussion leaders will moderate table discussions with attendees to facilitate the deepening of conversation around the themes of the day.
Conference Proceedings & Future publications
All presenters can send in their papers/presentations to be uploaded onto a Conference Proceedings website. Deadline for that is September 6, 2016. We will send in a reminder.
We will be sending out a call to all presenters with an invitation to submit papers to be considered for a Special Issue of a Journal and we will send more information as we get confirmation. This is a heads up that this will be a publication opportunity.
As well, we will be putting forward a Book Proposal for an edited collection of papers emerging from this conference – yet another publication opportunity – More details to come in the next months!
