Register for a manuscript consultation to receive feedback on your poetry, fiction or non-fiction.
The Writer's Studio Free Manuscript Consults
Need advice on your writing, or a nudge in the right direction? The Writers Studio offers a FREE 45-minute phone consult on up to 7 pages of your poetry or prose. Our alumni will provide supportive feedback on story, structure, point of view or anything else youd like reviewed in your fiction, non-fiction or poetry.
Submit your writing in the following format 1 week before your consult to consults@sfu.ca.
- Maximum 7 pages
- Title of your work(s), if it has one, at the top centre
- Your name beneath
- Page numbers on the bottom
- Double spaced, 12-point font
Dates are available from September to June.

Manuscript Consultations
Receive feedback online (via Skype or Zoom) or by phone on 20 pages of your poetry, fiction or non-fiction. One of our creative writing instructors will read your manuscript before your 50-minute meeting. At the meeting, they may provide you with suggestions on editing, how to publish your work, and how to work with editors and publishers.
Mini-Manuscript Consultation with Evelyn Lau
We are pleased to offer creative writers an opportunity to meet with Evelyn Lau, critically acclaimed author and former Vancouver Poet Laureate, for a manuscript assessment. You are welcome to submit a maximum of 15 double-spaced pages to Lau, who has written poetry, non-fiction and fiction. Lau will read your manuscript before your 50-minute phone meeting.
