Awna Besan
Awna Besan (M.Ed, CDP) is an educator, relationship-builder and community advocate with 10 years of experience in career education, having worked in Work BC, business-school, and work-integrated learning (WIL) and co-operative education settings. She has also worked for grassroots non-profits, in event production, and was even on a tasting panel for a brewery.
Currently a career educator with UBC's Arts Co-op program, she recently completed a master's of education with a focus on leadership studies. A true believer in community resilience, Awna has volunteered to support survivors of sexualized violence, people in crisis, and internationally trained professionals in the process of immigrating to Canada. She is the oldest daughter (well, technically, she's a twin) of an immigrant family, and the first in her family to complete a Canadian education.
Outside of work and school, Awna enjoys road trips, forest hikes, trivia tournaments and reading engrossing novels. She feels fuelled and fortunate to learn new things and share ideas with her students.
