Alfiya Battalova

Alfiya Battalova holds a PhD in disability studies, with a focus on system-level approaches to disability and health, from the University of Illinois in Chicago. 

Her postdoctoral research in the department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at UBC focused on disability, civic participation and community engagement, and was funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) partnership grant. As part of this work, Alfiya engaged with disability community organizations and municipalities in British Columbia to develop solutions in the areas of built environment, transportation and social accessibility. In her previous role at BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, she focused on evaluating anti-stigma, harm reduction and workforce capacity initiatives. She is currently an assistant professor with the School of Humanitarian Studies at Royal Roads University.

As a Credentialed Evaluator, Alfiya brings extensive experience conducting program evaluation in the areas of education, health equity and community participation. Alfiya is engaged in several initiatives that promote accessibility and inclusion. She serves on the City of Vancouver’s Persons with Disabilities Advisory Committee and Accessible Canada’s Emergency Measures Technical Committee.
