Business Finance

Learn the basic concepts and theory of corporate finance and how it relates to business strategy in the Canadian context. This course emphasizes the role of the financial manager in the process of maximizing shareholder wealth as well as the financial decision-making process as it relates to other levels of management. Topics include financial ratio analysis, budgeting, short- and long-term financing, the time value of money, investment decisions, capital budgeting and risk, financing decisions, capital structure, and dividend policy.

What you will learn

After completing this course, you’ll be able to do the following:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role that corporate finance plays in enabling a firm to survive change and competition
  • Determine the effect of the financial environment on your organization
  • Calculate the time value of money
  • Compute the effect of risk and return on the cost of capital and the value of your organization
  • Determine a firm’s optimal mix of working capital
