CRIS210

Crisis Intervention

Recognizing how a crisis affects your wellbeing is essential to mitigating its impact on you and on those entrusted to your care.

In this course, you will explore the dynamics of crisis and crisis intervention, including the human stress response (the flight, fight or freeze mechanism), the nature of shock and the signs of distress and crisis.

The course will equip you with the tools you need to assess grief associated with loss and change, focusing on the elements that determine the effects of grief: the intensity of emotions, the personal values and the long-term effects connected to loss, and the resiliency needed to adapt to change. You will also learn the principles of psychological first aid and critical incident stress management and how to apply them in the aftermath of a traumatic event.
