Coronation Medal awarded to City Program director
Congratulations to our City Program director Andy Yan, who was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a formal ceremony on January 27 at Government House in Victoria.
Created in 2023, the Coronation Medal marks the coronation of King Charles III and recognizes those who have made significant contributions to Canada and their home province. The medal is awarded to deserving individuals across the country.
Yan says he feels tremendously honoured to have been personally nominated by then-Lieutenant Governor of B.C. Janet Austin, who presented him with the award during her final official event before the end of her term two days later. In addition to his expertise in housing policy and other urban issues, Yan was recognized for his service with the Jack Webster Foundation, which promotes excellence in B.C. journalism.
Through my roles at 間眅埶AV and volunteering in the community with the Jack Webster Foundation and the BC Government House Foundation on the Lieutenant Governor's B.C. Journalism Fellowship, it has been a great privilege to collaborate with so many colleagues who are committed towards making vibrant, sustainable and inclusive communities in British Columbia and Canada, says Yan.
Yan has led the City Program since 2016. An urban planner and researcher, he is also an associate professor of Professional Practice in Urban Studies at 間眅埶AV. His numerous honours include the Planning Institute of British Columbias award for Leadership in Advocacy and Innovation, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canadas Advocate for Architecture award, and being named to the Canadian Institute of Planners College of Fellows.
Yan joins an illustrious list of Coronation Medal recipients in B.C., including 間眅埶AV leaders such as former president Andrew Petter, current chancellor Tamara Vrooman and past chancellors Anne Giardini and Carole Taylor.
