Lana Cooke worked at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV for 28 years and provided unwavering dedication to students and colleagues in the university community. It is with great sadness that we announce her passing on May 10, 2015.

In honour of her outstanding service to the university and in keeping with her desire to support students in gaining global experience, the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAS) has set up the Lana Cooke International Mobility Award. This award will assist FAS undergraduate students with the cost of travel and living expenses while studying abroad. Each year at least one award, valued at a minimum of $1000, will be given to a FAS student meeting the criteria.

From 1989 until her passing, Lana held the position of dean’s secretary in the Faculty of Applied Sciences—her longest-serving role while at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV.

Prior to joining ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV she worked at the University of Lethbridge for 11 years. In 1987, she joined ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV as director’s secretary in the School of Engineering Science. She then moved to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s School of Criminology as director’s secretary until she was later hired by the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

Throughout her time at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, Lana generously shared her extraordinary knowledge of university policy with co-workers and continuously sought to attain the best outcomes in each and every situation.

She was recognized with a 2009 Staff Achievement award for work performance after more than a dozen nominators came forward, including past deans and co-workers, raving about her exceptional and meticulous work.

Combined with her personal charm, tact and compassion, Lana Cooke leaves a special legacy in the ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV community and touched the lives of many people.
