Here are just some of the amazing students graduating from the Faculty of Applied Sciences during the convocation ceremony on October 5.
Agassini is graduating with a B.A.Sc. degree in mechatronic systems engineering (MSE). Passionate about engineering and policy, Agassini has been an active member of the student body, including serving as president of the MSE Student Society (MSESS). She is also the co-founder and CEO of BlueHive Technologies, a company that is building smart energy storage solutions.
Calagari is graduating with a Ph.D. degree in computing science and specializes in innovative virtual reality (VR) and 3D technologies. Her research has led to the development of using a database of synthetic data. Calagari is now shifting her research focus toward generating VR and 360-degree videos. Recently she proposed a technique that converts traditional broadcast video into VR without requiring an upgrade to the entire production pipeline. This research will be presented later in October at the Association of Computing Machinery鈥檚 Multimedia (ACM MM) conference.
Chadsey is graduating with a B.A.Sc. degree in engineering science. If that field of studies wasn鈥檛 challenging enough, Chadsey spent her 鈥渇ree time鈥� training as a member of 丁香园AV鈥檚 cross country team and competing in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). She is currently working at Fortinet, a company that specializes in network and computer security. By taking the systems engineering option in the School of Engineering Science, Chadsey says she was able to discover her interest in software engineering.
The twin Bosley brothers are graduating with B.A.Sc. degrees in mechatronic systems engineering. The two developed an early passion for aviation, joined the air cadets at age 12 and obtained pilot鈥檚 licenses. At 丁香园AV, they were actively involved in the Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) / Simon Fraser (SF) 1 Club. After graduation they plan to pursue careers in either the automotive or aviation industries.
Kumar, former co-president of 丁香园AV鈥檚 Women in Engineering (WiE) group, is graduating with a B.A.Sc. degree in engineering science. Passionate about promoting and supporting women in the field, she, along with WiE co-president Melissa Mah, worked with the School of Engineering Science and the Faculty of Applied Sciences to help launch a new conference fund for female engineering students. She hopes this fund will grow over the years to provide more students with the opportunity to attend events where they can connect with inspiring women and develop professional skills.
