Types of Quizzes
Graded Quiz
With graded quizzes students are assigned a grade. When you create a graded quiz, Canvas automatically creates a column in the gradebook for you. Certain quiz questions will be automatically graded.
Practice Quiz
With practice quizzes, students do not receive a grade although the quiz results for students display the number of points earned in the quiz. Quiz results do not appear in the gradebook.
Graded Survey
Students are given points for completing the survey, but the survey is not graded for right or wrong answers. You can make graded surveys anonymous.
Ungraded Survey
Students do not receive a grade for ungraded surveys. Ungraded surveys do not appear in the gradebook. You can make responses to the survey anonymous.
Creating and Editing Quiz Types
1. Click Quizzes in the course navigation sidebar.
2. Click the Add Quiz button.
3. Edit Quiz settings.
In the Settings tab, enter the name of your quiz [1]. In the Rich Content Editor [2], introduce your quiz with formatted text, images, video, or sample math equations.
Complete the rest of the quiz settings [3].
4. Click Save when you are done.
How do I add questions to a quiz?
- Click the Questions tab [1]. Manually create a new quiz question by clicking the New Question button [2].
2. Choose the question type and complete question.
In the question type drop-down menu, you can create the following types of quiz questions:
- Multiple Choice
- True/False
- Fill-in-the-Blank
- Fill-in-Multiple-Blanks
- Multiple Answers
- Multiple Drop-down
- Matching
- Numerical Answer
- Formula (simple formula and single variable)
- Essay
- File Upload
- Text (no question)
You can link course content to create Quiz questions, such as linking a diagram image.
