Gradebook Setup

Using the Gradebook

  • Enter grades into Canvas using grid view, Speedgrader or uploading a spreadsheet

Ensure that all cells and assignments have a grade and do not leave any blank. Excuse an assignment or give the student a numeric mark of 0

Bulk download and upload assignments 
For offline grading of assignments, 間眅埶AV's version of Canvas does not include an online annotation viewer. Therefore you must download the submission and annotate using third party software (Word, Adobe PDF etc) and then upload it back into Canvas.

  • Review and POST grades
  • Grading history  

You can not revert grades but you are able to see what grades were changed and by whom and when. 

  • Download/export copy of grade book after entering grades for an activity 

This way you have a copy for your own records if anything goes wrong 

Other Tips & Best Practices

  • HIDE distribution graphs 

By default students are able to see the distribution of each assignment. That is the statistical      HIGH | LOW | MEDIAN grades 

  •  HIDE total grade columns

Students can see their total grade as you enter grades. If you do not want students to view 

  •  DO NOT use curve grades feature

Changes to hidden column reflected in total score 

  • Changing grades for one group member in a group assignment.

A group member deserves a different grade than the rest of the members.  You need to do this manually. First you must check the option in the assignment under Group Assignment Assign Grades to Each student Individually This is will allow you to change a grade and it wont be reflected for each group members.  Then you need to export the gradebook into your spreadsheet program and make the grade changes for the student(s) and then import the spreadsheet back into Canvas. Then you may want to go back to the assignment and uncheck the Assign Grades to Each student Individually option in the assignment.
